Students Sought for Battle of the Books

The Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St., is beginning to recruit teams of students in grades 4-5 for its annual Battle of the Books competition. Teams can register online from now until December 17. The competition will be held in the spring.

Students form teams of up to four members and each team reads the same list of 36 titles, according to youth services librarian Anne Chapman Callaghan. She said teams prepare for 'battle' in their own ways and come together between late February and early April for team-on-team meets.

Last year over 100 teams from area schools competed. Three teams were top scorers: The Radical Reading Raptors from St. Joseph School, and the Bouncy Ball Books and Story Stealers from the Prairie School.

The Battle of the Books is aimed at students who truly enjoy reading and are team players. Contact the library's youth services department at (262) 636-9245 or anne.callaghan@racinelibrary.info for more information.
