Mobile Library Celebrates 60 Years of Neighborhood Service

In 1948, the Racine Public Library converted an old school bus into a traveling library enabling it to transport 2000 books to four weekly stops outside the city limits. Thus the Bookmobile was born. The Racine Public Library's mobile unit has since grown to offer more than 4,000 books, dvd's, magazines and cd's to over 10,000 patrons at 20 neighborhood stops throughout the Racine county in a timely and convenient manner.

During the week of August 19-23 the Racine Public Library will be hosting a number of neighborhood celebrations to honor the 60 year Mobile Library tradition. The celebrations will feature giveaways, raffles, games, activities, stories and Mobile history exhibits for the whole family. Patrons are also invited to add their personal memories to our Mobile Library commemorative journal at any time from August-December.

If you haven't had a chance to experience this valuable community resource, we encourage you to visit the neighborhood events, meet our knowledgeable and friendly staff, and pick up more information about what they have to offer.
