Thursday, January 20: Be an Authentic Human Being and Make a Difference

Robert Beezat will make a presentation and facilitate a discussion about his book at the Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St., on Thursday, January 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. The title of his presentation is the "Examined Life Today."

Robert Beezat is the former Town Administrator of Mt. Pleasant and the Interim CEO of the Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency. He currently serves as the Board President of SEED (Sustainable Edible Economic Development) a new, not-for-profit organization in Kenosha and Racine Counties. The mission of SEED http://www.rkcaa.org/RKCAA/SEED/Mission-Vision-Goals-and-Strat.htm is "Making lives better and creating jobs through healthy, sustainable, local agriculture."

His book is titled Knowing and Loving: The Keys To Real Happiness. The overall theme of the book is: Be joyful! Have fun! Be the happy person you were born to be! As the author writes, "Understanding, developing, and nurturing the human capacities of knowing and loving are the keys to finding deep and long-lasting human happiness."

Most people ask questions of themselves about who they are, why they are here, is there a God, and what will really make them happy. In Knowing and Loving the author, a man of faith and practicality, says "Our answers to or avoidance of those questions shape the practical and moral choices we make every day. Those choices, in turn, determine our level of happiness. As human beings, we are born to know and love. With a grasp of this basic concept, we can make choices and decisions which will enable us to live authentic, good, and happy lives in the short term and the long run."

Chapters in the early portion of the book examine some basic questions of what reality is and who and what we are. Later chapters relate those ideas and concepts to everyday encounters with reality in work, marriage, raising a family, and having fun. The author offers practical suggestions on how to translate those ideas into building a happy and good life for ourselves, our families and society as a whole.
