Library Announces Battle of the Books Winners

The Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St., will honor the winners of its thirteenth
annual "Battle of the Books" tournament at a special event to be held April 19th. This year's two co-champion teams are from the Praire School. They are The Awesome Prairie Unicorns: Erik Westman, Gina Lazarevic, Kethan Bajaj and Grace Semrau, and The Golden Readers: Jack Millin, Audrey Braun, Helena Frazier and Jackson Woodward. Five other teams completed the Winners' Circle. Two teams were from Jefferson Lighthouse. They are The Tributes: Nora Schultz, Kylie Tyykila, Sydney Cain and Matthew Spiegelhoff, and The Book-A-Nators: Connor Mills, Preston Janowiak, Joe Skantz and Will LaPlante. Two teams were from the Prairie School - The Reading Bobbleheads: Mitchell Warren, Anne Williams and Sonya Babu, and Pink Cat Ninjas: Sydney Peterson, Noni Dana, Sarah Kolanowski and Elliot Reske. One team was from St. Rita's School - Royal Readers: Alaina Adams, Abby Ignasiak, Sophie Wentorf and Autumn Heide.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Racine Public Library, the Battle of the Books is a literature contest for area fourth and fifth graders. This year 104 teams, over 400 students, battled. To prepare for battle, participants read 40 titles selected for the program by youth services librarians.
