Tuesday, March 3: Voices of Africa Perform at the Racine Public Library

The Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St., is hosting a special performance by Voices of Africa Choral and Percussion Ensemble, on Tuesday, March 3 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Adult Services Dept. on the second floor. The program is free and open to the public. No registration is necessary; however, seating is limited and early arrival is recommended.

"Voices of Africa" (VOA) is an all female a cappella and West African percussion group from Philadelphia, PA who have been performing since 1989 throughout the United States, UK, Canada, Jamaica, Hawaii, and Ghana, West Africa.

VOA performs uplifting and heart pounding rhythms and sings inspirational and educational music in 4 and 5 part harmonies. They play a variety of instruments including the Sakara Drum from Nigeria,, Sangba (djun djun), Agogo bell and Sekere. Their performances include popular traditional African music as well as original pieces written by the members.

VOA performs throughout the country in elementary & high schools, colleges & universities and many cultural and women-centered events. The women also offer educational and interactive workshops and lectures on West African rhythms and percussion methods; Shekere
making; West African Clothing, and Food and Customs.
